Frequently asked questions

Are we accepting users at the moment?

Yes - you can use the site freely! So, feel free to use the system and consider your self a tester!

What devices are supported?

Currently at the time of writing High Sierra 10.13.6. It should work on newer! Need testers! ;-)

You have executed a command but nothing has happened.

Jobs are stored in a queue. The agent will checkin every 15 minutes and run the commands in the queue.

You have waited an hour and still nothing!

If you run commands or a script that gets stuck in a loop or was running an interactive terminal app then you will have to wait until the agent times out. At the date of writing the agent is set to 1 hour time out.

Why an hour for time out?

Maybe we will look at ways to reduce or overtide the time out. But for now this is useful for scripts that return data over a longish period.

You want to get involved with developing this product?

We could do with some help. At the moment it is free, and may remain so, or maybe in time we may need to fund hosting and apps! So if you have skills let us know.

Feature Requests?

Would love to hear your thoughts. If we can do it we will. If we can't and you can let us know! Or we can ask the community for help in implementing your ideas!

Why do feature requests take so long?

We endevour to be quick, however this is a pet project. Our lead Apple guy Christian Jackson has impressively popped this tool together within a couple of weeks during the evenings, around a busy family schedule with 2 young children ;-)
Hopefully we can get some community developers onboard.

You want more information on the Device Stats page?

No problem what data is useful?

Why did we make this app?

We were on a job for a prestiege client doing a Mac suite install, and found the need to send many scripts to devices, and quickly realised that a tool like this would help us on site and to continually support the client.

What about Apple Remote Deskop for sending scripts?

ARD is great - we love it and use it! But its hard to use such a product from a remote location

What about MDM?

MDM is great, we use it all the time, but our favourite MDMs didnt have capability to send a quick comand or script. That will no doubt change or maybe already exists for some MDMs. However this may remain a simple tool for quick stats and sending commands.
Also we can imagine for some situations people may not use an MDM but still interested in the tool for support and monitoring.

The user interface doesnt work on your device...

This was coded mostly on a Mac - it looks good on the desktop (Safari and Chrome). It works on mobile also but there is much work to be done on the mobile design to make it friendly.

Something is broken or you are getting an error message?

Oh dear, perhaps we are working on updating the code in real time. or perhaps we missed something. Send full details of the error, what you were doing and any error messages, and the user you are logged in as. We will look into it.

What data is stored?

We dont keep anything we don't need to keep the system running. Your contact details will not be shared with any other organisation. We might contact you if we think there is value in it, you can opt out of any communications.
Your devices send data to our database - this is necessary for the reporting functions. There is also a queue of commands and log of responses for you to read. No other user has access to any of your data without your credentials. We are potentially able to see data for troubleshooting the system itself.

Have we made other tools?

Yeah we can't stop! Our last freely available project is mylistofapps.com which was originally designed to support IT engineers obtain app lists from their clients for deployment with out making mistakes - a kind of shopping list that gave a cost break down. This is still a valid use!
- However, the tool has a life of its own and is used by all sorts of users; particularly schools, teachers, trainers who use it as a way to communicate their favourite and recommended apps to others.
We are really proud of the tool as it is used all over the globe!

Why do we do it?

Well we are not asking for anything; but we hope you give us some love! Tweet about us! Recomend us to education & businesses! We are an IT Support company that specialises in iOS & Mac deployment to education and business. We naturally hope for leads!

Road Map - potential features;

Loosly speaking this will be developed as the needs arise. Areas we will want to focus on;
- Additional Security where needed
- User library of recepies (commands/scripts) so users can re-run executions
- Ability for users to share recipies with the public domain if they so choose
- Make sure private recipies stay private - since they might contain sensitive data ie passwords
- Mobile CSS development
- Ability to delete logs / or some kind of system wide purge after x days
- Build in a queue time out - or ability to cancel jobs in the queue

Thanks;

To the many people that have been a sounding board both technically and not techie users.
